Obtaining University Credits

University Credit: You do not need to enroll with the university or go to the university's web page unless directed to do so. If you did not select one of our affiliate universities during the enrollment process you will be able to select academic credits upon completion of your course(s). Upon completion of your course(s), you will select the desired university from which you would like to receive credit, read the specific information for obtaining credits, pay the credit fee for the university of your choice, and CE Credits Online will submit your payment and required information to the appropriate university. More complete and detailed information regarding each university's procedures is listed below.

HSU credit: Humboldt State University Credit Process ($46/credit)

Humboldt State University (HSU): HSU offers post-baccalaureate, 700-level credits based on a semester system. The credit fee due from the student is $46 per credit.

Step 1: Initiating Your University Credit Request
CE Credits Online is the course provider and Humboldt State University is the accrediting institution. The HSU Office of Extended Education issues the university credit, and there is a fee of $46 per credit. Upon completion of your course, you have two weeks to apply for university credit. Once we have verified that all your coursework is completed and approved, and we have received the credit fees, your paperwork, along with the fees, will be sent to Humboldt State University for processing at the end of each month. The processing of your credits can take up to 6-8 weeks from the time of your request.

Step 2: Confirming Your HSU University Credit Request Has Been Processed
It will take HSU 3 to 4 weeks to process your request once they have received it. You will know that you have been processed when HSU sends you a "Confirmation of Registration" letter detailing how to access your student records. You can either wait for the HSU confirmation letter or you can check periodically on the HSU website to see if an account has been created for you. Once you are in the HSU system, you will be able to log in and can print an unofficial copy of your transcript.

Accessing the HSU Website: You will be asked enter your User ID, which is your social security number. Then enter the Pin, which is comprised of the six numbers corresponding to the month and year of your birth. The first two digits are the month of your birth, and the remaining four are the year in which you were born. For example, 012003 would mean that you were born January 2003. Here is the link to HSU's website: https://www.humboldt.edu/pls/banweb/twbkwbis.P_WWWLogin

NOTE: The semester on your HSU transcript and/or "Confirmation of Registration" letter will reflect the semester in which you were processed in their system. This may not be the semester in which you completed your course with CE Credits Online. If you have any difficulty, contact the Office of Extended Education at 707-826-3731.

Step 3: Requesting an Official HSU Transcript
Requesting an official HSU transcript is a completely separate process. CE Credits Online can not request a transcript for you -- only you (the student) can initiate that request. Processing time is 7-10 working days after receipt of your request. Here is the link to HSU explaining how to request an official transcript: http://www.humboldt.edu/~reg/transcripts.html.

Obtaining a Certificate of Completion

The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized method of quantifying the time spent in the classroom for professional development and training activities. Ten hours of instruction = 1.0 CEU. Thirty hours of instruction = 3.0 CEU's.

CE Credits Online courses offer university credit, which correspond to the number of hours designated for each course and the number of academic credits, based on the semester system, for each course. Course syllabi post the number of hours. For example "Coaching to Improve Teaching and Learning" is a 3 semester credit course, which equals 45 hours and therefore 4.5 CEU's. However districts may have their own formula and/or their own unit for designating professional development credit.

Before taking courses for recertification or license renewal, it is the responsibility of each participant
  • to ensure that his/her state, regional office, or school district will accept CE Credits Online courses for CEU's.
  • to know how many hours of contact time will correspond to CEU's. For example Washington Educational Service Centers award "Clock Hours" equal to the number of hours assigned to the course. Therefore a 45 hour course equals 45 "Clock Hours". The state of Georgia assigns 4 PLU's for the same 45 hours. In Michigan, the same number of CEU's may not automatically transfer to the same number of SB-CEU's.
  • to ensure that state requirements recognize CEU's as a preferred choice for license renewal. Some states may require participants to apply for university academic credits from one of our partner universities rather than apply for CEU's.
State Requirements: To assist participants with locating their state's requirements for license renewal, the "Find My State" located on the site allows participants to click on the appropriate state in the drop-down box and read about their state's requirements. Even though CE Credits Online has made every effort to copy the information from the state's website, it is the participant's responsibility to ensure that the state page lists the current requirements for renewal.

University Academic Credit: All states accept the academic credits issued by our regionally approved university partners for recertification purposes.

CEUs (Continuing Education Units): The number of course hours that can be converted to CEUs or other professional development units can be found in the course syllabus. Where is the course syllabus? From the CE Credits Online home page, click on Catalog/Syllabus in the Information Center section, and then click on the desired course. Onc logged in to the course, participants also can select Syllabus from the student home page.

CE Credits Online makes every effort to provide accurate information regarding a participant's state's requirements for license renewal.

Where do I apply for my Certificate of Completion

Once you have completed your course (all lessons complete, all forum postings approved, final exam taken, surveys and evaluations completed), your Course Summation Section on your Student Home Page will read: Your course is complete. Please select your choice of credit. When a participant chooses "Certificate of Completion," that certificate can be printed for records and submitted for professional development units. In some states, such as Michigan and Mississippi, other forms must be completed and submitted to specified offices to obtain CEU's.
