Course Description:
This course provides teachers with the tools they need for effective teaching strategies in today’s classroom, including classroom environment, setup, differentiated instruction techniques, classroom management, alternative assessments and modifications for diverse learners. Videos model different teaching techniques giving participants an opportunity to “visit” and observe other teachers in action.
Course Objectives:
- To introduce course participants to American education, from its history and the governmental policies that has guided it, down to the actual workings within today’s classroom.
- To identify the leaders affecting public education, including those considered innovators.
- To discuss the development of a child, including the theories of Piaget, Vygotsky, Erikson and Kohlberg. To identify and address individual differences in learning and diversity in the classroom.
- To discuss the scientific approach to learning, including the behavioral, cognitive and constructivist theories.
- To identify the factors that influence motivation.
- To identify methods to create an environment that promotes better learning.
- To discuss traditional versus alternative methods of assessment.

Fees: $2 per clock hour + $5 set-up fee for each in-service. All participants pay same fee whether they qualify for all offered hours or not (based on attendance).
*It is highly recommended that you request your clock hour request forms within 30 days of course completion.

University Credits: All courses are eligible for university credit. University credit must be requested within two weeks of course completion from your student homepage.

Washington State Information
Washington State Certification Renewal Requirements
To maintain the validity of the continuing certificate, 150 clock hours of continuing education study and/or equivalent academic credit (15 quarter hours or 10 semester hours) must be completed every five years
OR
For those who hold a certificate from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) present a copy of a valid NBPTS certificate

University Affiliations
You may request academic credits upon completion of your CE Credits Online course(s).; This must be done within two (2) weeks of your CE Credits Online course completion.
If you will be requesting university credits, it is important you read all the information for your selected university. Some universities require you to obtain a letter grade and others offer both letter grades and a pass/fail option. If you require a letter grade or intend to obtain academic credit from a university requiring a letter grade, you will select that option prior to beginning your course during the enrollment process.
Please keep in mind, some of our university affiliations are quarter based credit systems and some are semester based credits systems. Please verify with your Professional Development department which credit based system they accept.

You may request university, post baccalaureate, academic credit(s) from one of CE Credits Online regionally accredited partner universities. CE Credits Online suggests each Washington educator contact their local professional development coordinator to obtain verification that the proposed activity meets criteria and needs of the teacher's individual Professional Development Plan (PDP), his/her school's professional development plan, and the local school system's professional development plan.

CE Credits Online suggests each Washington educator register for CE Credits Online courses through their Educational Service District (find the link to your ESD below. If you do not see your ESD, you can register through the ESD of your choice and request clock hours from them).
