Participants will learn exciting and effective strategies for varying instruction across grade levels to meet diverse learning needs in the classroom and discover new instructional approaches that will maximize achievement for all students. Specific focus is upon the human differences that affect learning, what the brain needs in order to learn well, how to adjust various aspects of instruction to accommodate those needs, and what kinds of teaching strategies help create classrooms that resonate with relevant and engaging lessons that are both challenging and achievable for all students. This course is invaluable for educators in today’s classroom. PLEASE NOTE: Participants are encouraged to work with a partner or as part of a team.

About the Workbook/Reflective Journal
Competency 4/5 participants must use the reading specific Workbook/Reflective Journal, Differentiating Instruction in the Regular Classroom with an Emphasis on Reading – Florida Reading Endorsement Competency 4/5 (see links below) to complete the course Workbook/Reflective Journal Exercises. Your completed Journal will be turned in to your school district as part of your Reading Endorsement Portfolio unless they specify otherwise . Please use the Microsoft Word Version which allows you to type your responses directly into the Workbook/Reflective Journal.
If you do not have Microsoft Word, download and print the Adobe Acrobat version of the Workbook/Reflective Journal, and refer to it as you type your answers in your own word processing program. Be sure to save your work often and submit your Journal to your school district according to their instructions. We highly recommend that you save it on a CD and/or in paper form as part of your Reading Endorsement Documentation.

Coaching to Improve Reading

This course focuses upon the all-important coaching relationship in improving student reading achievement and the seven components of successful reading programs as the foundation of reading achievement: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, writing about the reading, and content area reading skills. Intentional best practice in each reading component is emphasized as the basis for the coaching interaction. Through learning activities, observations of teaching and practice and application of skills, participants learn how to establish a positive, respectful, caring and confidential coaching relationship that allows each partner to grow and learn in a safe, collaborative and guiding atmosphere with the common goal of increasing student reading achievement. PLEASE NOTE: Most assignments require participants to work with a partner(s).
