Description
This course introduces educators to the instructional potential of modern interactive whiteboard systems as tools for supporting engagement, visualization, collaboration, and student-centered learning. Participants will explore how interactive displays, touchscreen tools, annotation features, multimedia resources, and supporting software can be used to strengthen instruction across grade levels and content areas.
The course emphasizes practical, transferable skills that apply across platforms such as SMART Technologies, Promethean, ViewSonic, BenQ, Newline Interactive, Mimio, Clevertouch, and other interactive whiteboard systems. Participants will build foundational technology skills, examine instructional strategies, and consider how interactive tools can support access, representation, and meaningful participation for all students, especially students who have been historically underserved or marginalized.
By the end of the course, participants will design a lesson that purposefully integrates interactive whiteboard tools to support student learning, collaboration, equitable participation, and multiple ways for students to demonstrate understanding.
Please Note: Access to a specific brand of interactive whiteboard is not required for this course; however, having access to an interactive display, touchscreen device, or comparable digital tool may enhance your learning experience. Several of the software platforms referenced in this course offer free versions, trial access, browser-based tools, or downloadable options, although availability and compatibility may vary by platform, device, school license, and operating system. Course content includes demonstration videos, platform guides, and classroom examples that highlight a range of interactive whiteboard tools and instructional strategies. While specific tools, features, and interfaces may vary, the skills and instructional strategies presented in this course are designed to be transferable across platforms and adaptable to a wide range of classroom technologies.
