How to get your Montana OPI Renewal Units
The State of Montana requires you to complete a Registration and Verification Form for each CE Credits Online course you complete. Once your course is done, here's how the process works:
- Contact the CE Credits Online office at support@cecreditsonline.org once your course is completed. Let us know your name, the course you completed, and that you are requesting a Montana Registration and Verification Form.
- CE Credits Online will email you the form with our portion already completed.
- Complete your sections of the Registration and Verification Form.
- Make sure the information in Sections I, II, and III is accurate and complete — missing information may make the form unacceptable for license renewal.
- A copy of your certificate is required to be included with your application for educator license.
- Remember that all events used to obtain license renewal units must be completed within your current five-year license renewal cycle.
Important — Montana audit policy: You are no longer required to submit official transcripts and renewal unit certificates at the time of renewal application. Renewal applications are now randomly audited to verify accuracy. Even though you don't need to submit your documents at the time of renewal, you do need to keep them for your records. If your application is selected for audit, you will have 60 days to submit your documents for verification. Your license will not be issued if you are unable to provide the documentation needed to verify your professional development activities.
- Once you've successfully completed your course, we'll email you a Certificate of Completion for your records.
University Credits
If you need an official university transcript, you can add university credits when you purchase. Once you complete your course, we take care of the rest — we send all the required documentation directly to your chosen university, and they'll issue your official transcript and email you instructions for accessing it. Your transcript will include the course name, course number, number of credits, and your grade.
Graduate-level credits are available through Adams State University, Augustana University, Valley City State University, and Cal Poly Humboldt. Visit our University Partners page to learn more.

Montana OPI Renewal Unit FAQs
What is the Registration and Verification Form?
The Registration and Verification Form is required by the State of Montana for each course you complete for OPI renewal units. After you finish your course, contact us at support@cecreditsonline.org and we'll send you the form with our portion already completed. You fill in your sections — including the Instructor of Record from your Certificate of Completion — and submit it with your license renewal application.
What is the Type dropdown when I select a course?
The Type dropdown lets you choose your enrollment option. Course Only gives you a Certificate of Completion for your Montana OPI renewal records. University Credits adds an official university transcript from one of our partner universities. For OPI renewal units only, Course Only is all you need.
What does my Certificate of Completion include?
Your Certificate of Completion includes the name of the course, the number of professional development hours completed, and the Instructor of Record — which you'll need for your Registration and Verification Form. Keep it for your records.
Do I need to submit documentation when I renew my license?
No — you are no longer required to submit transcripts and renewal unit certificates at the time of renewal application. However, Montana renewal applications are randomly audited, and if yours is selected you will have 60 days to provide documentation. Keep all your records.
Does CE Credits Online submit my renewal documents to OPI?
No — certificate renewal is completed directly through the Montana Office of Public Instruction. CE Credits Online provides your Certificate of Completion and the Registration and Verification Form — the submission process is yours.
Can I add university credits after I purchase a course?
University credits are easiest to add at purchase using the Type dropdown on the course page. If you completed a course and later find out you need university credits, contact us within 30 days of completion and we can help.
How long do I have to complete a course?
You have 180 days (about 6 months) from your purchase date to complete your course. All courses are self-paced — no scheduled sessions or live requirements.
